“The Kings of the Kilburn High Road”

Synopsis – In the mid-1970s, six young men emigrate to London in the hope
of making their fortunes. Like so many of their generation, they spend their lives
in manual labour and construction work. They intended to stay only a little while,
make some money and return home as successful men, Now, twenty-something
years later, they are still in London One is successful. The others are broken from
lives of hard work and even harder drinking. Five gather in a side room of a London
pub drink to their fallen friend – the only one to make it home, albeit in a coffin.
Secrets are revealed and lies are uncovered.
History of the Group
Camross Drama Group are in existence for 65 years. They are a small rural group
of about 20 members based in the famous Camross Ballroom, just off N25 about
10 miles from Wexford. They have been taking part in One Act festivals almost
every year since 1950’s, winning 4 National titles with 2008 being most recent. They
usually do some One Acts in Autumn with one going on Circuit and a full length play
in Spring. In 2013 they went on circuit with “The Loves of Cass Maquire” In 2020 they
went on Full Length Circuit with “The Year of the Hiker” but like all others Covid-19
interrupted progress. They are delighted and honoured to be in Ballyshannon to
realise a long held ambition, within group, to qualify for Full Length All Ireland
They wish Festival Organisers and all participating groups long lasting pleasant
memories of Ballyshannon 2022 and that the only person with a
“tough time” will be Adjudicator Paul Fowler.
