PAUL FOWLER

Ballyshannon Drama Society are delighted to welcome esteemed adjudicator Paul Fowler to judge this year’s All Ireland Confined Finals.

A former journalist, broadcaster and public relations consultant, Paul who lives in Kettering, Northants, has worked for newspapers, magazines, television and radio stations all over the world, specialising in his other great passion – motorsport – and in particular, motorcycle racing.

He has been a well-known commentator on top level motorcycle racing, PR spokesman for the motorcycle industry and a tutor at television and radio presentation courses in Westminster aimed at helping politicians, public service employees and top level businessmen deal with the electronic media. In 2001 Paul took a break from his career and three years later graduated from the University of Essex with an Honours degree in Drama and Literature.

As an actor Paul has appeared in the British All Winners Drama Festival on two occasions including a role in the winning production of The Royal Hunt of the Sun in 1985. As a director his production of Owen McCafferty’s Days of Wine and Roses was the winner of the British All Winners Drama Festival in 2014.

Paul now works as an Independent Celebrant, and conducts non-religious baby namings, weddings and funeral services in and around his home town of Kettering, Northamptonshire. Since becoming a member of the Guild of Drama Adjudicators in 2001. Paul has adjudicated in both the North and South of Ireland, Wales, Scotland, England and the Isle of Man.

In 2007 he adjudicated the Welsh One Act finals, in 2010 presided at the AETF English Finals held in Burton on Trent, he was adjudicator for the 2011 and 2015 British All Winners Drama Festivals, and in 2012 presided over the Ulster One Act Finals. Last year Paul was the adjudicator for the British Finals held at the Wilde Theatre, Bracknell and in 2017 will be the adjudicator at the Ulster Finals, The Leatherhead Festival and Hertford Theatre Week, among others.

Paul is a former Chairman of  The Guild of Drama Adjudicators (GoDA), and is also a member of Scottish Association of Speech and Drama Adjudicators.
