Tom Byrne
Ballyshannon Drama Society are delighted to welcome Tom Byrne as the adjudicator for our 62nd Drama Festival.
A native of Celbridge,Co Kildare, Tom has over thirty years involvement with Amateur Drama. He has won numerous awards as a director and successfully qualified productions to the RTE All Ireland Finals Athlone in 2009 (“Faith Healer “ by Brian Friel) and 2010 (“Mauritius” by Theresa Rebeck). Tom has the unique record of qualifying productions for six successive All- Ireland One Act finals and has directed All-Ireland winning productions on three occasions: 2005 (“Small Box Psychosis by Barry McKinley), 2009 (“The Quality of Boiled Water” by Jason Milligan) and 2010 (“A Number” by Caryl Churchill).
He commenced adjudicating in 2011 and has to date adjudicated festivals in Dundrum, Prosperous, Rathangan, Limerick, Roscommon, Tubbercurry, Kiltimagh, West Cork, Claregalway and Mullagh.
Later this month he will adjudicate the Glenamaddy festival and he is booked for Dundrum and Kilmallock One Act festivals this autumn.
His radio play “Howzee”- surrounding his experiences as a football referee -has been broadcast by RTE.
Tom has been married to Marie for 25 years (they met in the Dublin Shakespeare Society!) and they have four sons Ken, Philip, Brian and Matthew and all are active in drama.
