Ballyshannon Drama Society will return to the festival circuit next year with a new production of Harold Pinter’s ‘Old Times’. In one of Pinter’s greatest dramatic creations, first produced in 1971 by the RSC, Deeley and his wife Kate are visited by Anna, a mysterious friend of Kate’s from long ago. What begins as a trip down memory lane quickly becomes something more, as long-simmering feelings of fear and jealousy begin to fuel the trio’s passions, sparking a seductive and haunting battle for power. The play is currently enjoying a high profile revival on Broadway in a production starring Clive Owen, Eve Best and Kelly Reilly, with music by Thom Yorke of Radiohead. Northern Lights Up for ‘God of Carnage’ 

  Ballyshannon Drama Society are back on the road this September as they take ‘The God of Carnage’ to Oslo, Norway, following an invitation to perform there from Oslo-based local man Phelim Rooney. Months of emails and planning have resulted in the booking in the Asker Music School Theatre on Sunday September 27th, when the Reilles and the Vallons will air their differences in public once again.  Phelim has been keen to get his hometown drama group even further north for some time, but large, complex sets proved difficult to transport. ‘The God of Carnage’ set, however, is more simple to recreate, and so the play seemed like the perfect choice to begin an exchange between two local drama groups, one…

All Ireland Awards Ceremony Saturday May 9th

On Thursday, April 30th, Ballyshannon Drama Society opened the RTE All Ireland Drama Finals with ‘God of Carnage’, and now on Saturday May 9th we head to Athlone once again to attend the Awards Ceremony in the Radisson Hotel. It would be great to bring back some All Ireland silverware to Ballyshannon, but it was a fantastic honour and a great achievement to get on to the Dean Crowe stage two years in a row. News from Saturday night will be announced on our Facebook and Twitter accounts. ‘God of Carnage’ in Ulster Final & All Ireland Final 2015!

Ballyshannon Drama Society is once again heading to Athlone in a few weeks for the RTÉ All Ireland Amateur Drama Finals with ‘The God of Carnage’ by Yasmina Reza, and will then compete in the final of the Ulster Drama Festival in The Mill, Newtownabbey on Saturday, May 23rd. Months of rehearsal in the basement of the Abbey Centre, four nights to ever-supportive home audiences, and eight nights on the festival circuit have certainly paid off. The show took four Firsts (in Newtownstewart, Strabane, Carrickmore and Cavan), finishing in third place overall on the ADCI Leaderboard. The leaderboard is now wiped clean as the nine All Ireland finalists compete in the Dean Crowe Theatre in Athlone. The All Ireland finals begin on April…
